Choosing light or dark mode

How to switch FYL between light and dark, and which parts of the app the choice applies to.

FYL displays in dark by default. If you'd rather use light, switch it under Appearance in your account menu. Anyone signed in can change it, whatever their role in a league.

Where do I change light or dark mode?

Open the account menu — tap your initials or photo in the top-right corner — and look for Appearance. It has two choices:

  • Dark — the default.
  • Light — switch to this if you prefer it.

The change happens straight away. There is nothing to save.

Does my choice carry across my devices?

No. The setting is remembered per device and per browser.

If you use FYL on a phone and a laptop, each one keeps its own choice, and you set them separately. Choosing Light on your phone does not change your laptop.

This also means that if you clear your browser data, or open FYL in a private/incognito window, it goes back to the dark default.

Which parts of the app change?

Everything you use while signed in — your home screen, leagues, events, scorecards, standings, stats, betting, and the settings pages.

Three things deliberately do not follow your choice:

  • Public pages you share with people outside your league — a league or event's public page, and invite links — are always light, so they look the same for everyone who opens them.
  • The TV scoreboard is always dark, because it is built to be read across a room on a big screen.
  • The remote for the TV scoreboard is always dark to match the screen it controls.

Will dark mode save my battery?

On a phone with an OLED screen it may help a little, because a dark screen lights fewer pixels. On other screens it makes no real difference.

Most people pick whichever is easier on their eyes rather than for battery — dark is often more comfortable for checking scores in the evening or on the course at dusk.

Does FYL follow my phone's own light/dark setting?

No. FYL's Appearance choice is independent of your device's own setting — it does not automatically switch with your phone or computer. A new phone, a cleared browser, or a private/incognito window all start in dark regardless of what your device is set to; choose Light in Appearance if you'd rather it stayed light.
